 JUNE 2012

Acadia National Park is located in Bar Harbor Maine. A beautiful National Park that hugs the Atlantic Ocean and offers amazing views. It was a great time hiking, seeing the sights and spending family time together....

Learn to spread your wings and Fly!!

Yeah I'm not going down there!!
Or over there either!
I'll stay safe over here with mommy....

Living the life....

Yeah it was a bit chilly in June.
Alone we are not strong but.....

We took a road-trip from NJ to visited Acadia National Park for a 4 day weekend in June. We had never been to Maine and were not sure what to expect. We arrived on a cold and raining morning but the rain and clouds quickly moved out and left us with a sunny but brisk weekend.  There were many hiking trails but our favorite was the Bubble Rock trail (see left). It was a moderate hike but had some amazing views and opportunities for great pictures. Arcadia is definitely a must see for families looking to enjoy the outdoors..We look forward to making a trip back     up to Maine sometime in the near future.

Together we can move mountains!!

What!!!!!!!!!
Amazing view

Ewww Hissing Cockaroaches and skunks!!!!!

Coming from a family of 6 I need to catch as many scraps as I can!

Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory
                                                    @www.fortknox.maineguide.com
740 Fort Knox Road, Prospect, Maine 04981

Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory were an amazing and unexpected find on our way back to NJ from Acadia National Park. It was $5 for adults and $3 for chidren for admission which included both places.

At the top of the Observatory
A one minute ride on the fastest elevator in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont will take you to the top of the tallest public bridge-observatory in the world. The others are in China, Slovakia and Thailand. Just opened in May 2007, the observatory is already proving to be a popular attraction. The beauty of the Penobscot River and surrounding  countryside is immediately apparent as the elevator door slides open to a dizzying view from 420 feet up. Ascend two more levels up to find 360 degrees views, complete with  identification panels showing you how to locate nearby mountains, lakes and towns.

Penobscot River view from the fort

The entrance to the Fort

This about sums up most of our vacations.....

Thought these were a litte creepy at the Fort Visitor Center

The Androscoggin Swinging Bridge was another unexpected
find during our return trip from Acadia Nat park. It was a great stop to get out and stretch our legs as well as to take a nice stroll over the Androscoggin River.

The Swinging Bridge in Maine was originally built in 1892 for workers walking from the Topsham Heightsneighborhood to Cabot Mill in Brunswick, over the Androscoggin River. The bridge was constructed by John A. Roebling's Sons Company, the engineering firm that designed and built the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City and other bridges around the world. The bridge's history is closely tied to the French Canadian heritage of Topsham and Brunswick.

So this was the first 6 months of travel in a nutshell.

Stay tuned for our next post about the final 6 months of the year!!
